A friend of mine has told me recently that she wants to start her own business as she is tired of working in the corporate world.
She told me that she is undecided on whether to start a brick and mortar business or to be a real estate agent. I posed a question to her “Do you want to start a business because it is something you like to do? Or is it just a means to leave your job?”
To me, this is very important. When I was first exposed to internet marketing, I saw it as an opportunity to earn quick bucks from the internet and probably a way to quit my job. Today, after spending months learning about the trade, I realize there is no such thing as a get rich quick scheme on the internet. And you also need to invest a lot of time, effort and money for your learning.
At the same time, I also realize that despite the late nights (I am still holding on to my day job), and the lack of time spent with my family, I am now ‘hooked’ on to my learning to succeed as an internet marketer. This is because I have developed a passion in this. Every minute I spend learning about how internet marketing works excites me. Although I have no result to show yet, I believe that one day I will.
Now back to my friend. I told her exactly what I am going through and if not for how much I love what I am doing now, I would have given up. Similarly, if she starts a business she is passionate about, there is likelihood for success. If she choose to start something that she is not passionate about, there is a chance that she may give up in the face of obstacles.
