October 21 2015 – We’re Back In The Future

This post may come a little late as I was busy in the past week with our STWW Annual Convention 2015 (post about that later). Nevertheless, this date is a very special date for me not only because it marks history in Back To The Future movies (it is the day Marty McFly and Doc went to the future in their Delorean time machine), it is also the day I turn 40.

Yes, I am officially 40 years old and as the saying goes “Life Begins At 40”, my life has just begun.

First, a little look at the movie Back To The Future and its future today.

There are already many posts about how similar or different the future in the movie is from the present now so I shall not go into the long details of that. Still, I’d like to list down some of the things that have been observed.

1. 3D movies are now available

2. Wide screen TVs are widely used

3. Video conference is now common

4. Flying cars are not public but there are prototypes

5. Hoverboards are not available yet

6. We have google glass

7. We have drones

That’s all I can think of. While there are many things that have indeed come true, there are those that are still work in progress. One thing is for sure, the world has changed so much due to technological advances.

As for myself, I have observed many things have changed in my little country Singapore too. I remember when I was younger there was no MRT (Mass Rapid Transit), our buses were without air-conditioning, taxis come with a little fan in front and there was no GPS. Taxi booking was communicated via walkie-talkies. I remember too when I was young, borrowing a library book means you have to bring your library card to be ‘stamped’. I remember when I was young, a meal at McDonald’s was a luxury weekend getaway. Today, Singapore has evolved from a developing country to a developed country and it has transformed into a very beautiful place, where millions of people visit us.

For myself, I have grown from a baby to a kid, and a kid to a teenager, to an adult and now with a family of my own. 40 years seemed to have passed by in a wink, and I have enjoyed these 40 years. I am grateful for these 40 years and I am looking forward to the next 40 years as I believed that the first 40 was spent for accumulation of knowledge and wisdom. Now it is time to put these knowledge to use and to plan for my future.

I am also looking forward to what future technology can bring us. Will we really have flying cars one day? Will hoverboards become a reality? Will there be something else that cannot even be imagined today? We will see one day, when we are Back To The Future, probably 40 years later.

For now, I’ll probably go watch Back To The Future II one more time. Love this movie.

  • I think that everything said made a great deal of sense.
However, think on this, suppose you added a little information? I
ain’t suggesting your information is not good., but what if you added a headline to maybe grab folk’s attention? I mean October 21 2015 – We’re Back In The
Future | imVictorLee.com is a little plain. You could glance
at Yahoo’s front page and watch how they write
news headlines to get viewers interested.
You might add a related video or a related pic or two to grab people interested about
everything’ve got to say. In my opinion, it could make your
    posts a little livelier.
