Recently, I encountered a few occasions where I was given advice by people I know, and instead of believing in myself, I chose to listen to the advice. One of them made me lost my iphone.
Well, what happened was I was supposed to take part in an outdoor activity and it was raining heavily. I knew I had to leave my iphone indoors but as I was about to move out, a friend advised me to bring it along as it is not safe to leave it behind.
Somehow, I knew that it is safer to leave it indoors but I chose to listen to the advice and brought alone my iphone. Of course, the iphone got wet and could no longer work from that night on.
Lesson I learned: Always listen to yourself first. If really in doubt, then seek advice.
Many times, we tend to listen to ‘advices’ and limit our own beliefs. Even if we knew very well what should be done, there are many times that our own beliefs choose to give way to external advice.
Of course, there are advices that are worth listening to, especially if it comes from someone who have had a wealth of experience. My point is I should have my own mind set on my own beliefs rather than to listen to others all the time.
And just for the record, I am not blaming the person for the advice given that cost me my iphone. In fact, I am thankful for the lesson learned. It made me realize that I really have to believe in my own judgment more.
