I’ve been wanting to improve my fitness since I completed POE Module 1. That’s because I can visualize myself achieving my financial goals in the near future. However, it will not be fruitful if I do not have the health to enjoy it with my family.
Hence, as you can see from my previous post Action Goals, my two goals are to do 30 sit ups everyday and to run/jog every weekend.
I have been consistently doing my sit ups and have since increased it to 35 a day. I am very happy that I have achieved this even though to some it may be an easy task.
What I have not achieved is I have ‘skipped’ my jogging last weekend as I was not able to wake up. Even though I know there is no excuse and the cause was that I was lazy, I still could not bring myself to wake up and I am disappointed at myself. I used what I learned but was still unable to make myself wake up for the run.
Still, I did not give up and decided that I must change my strategy. Last night, I told myself that I will have to wake up at 5am for a jog this morning and thought hard how can I achieve my goal today. Suddenly an idea struck me. I decided to put myself on the line and I told my wife.
“Dear, if tomorrow I don’t wake up at 5am for a run, I will pay you $10 and for weekends, I will pay you $50.”
My wife smiled and happily agreed (but of course!!!).
And you know what? It WORKED!!!
This morning I woke up at 5.10am (that’s when my alarm will snooze) and went for a short job. It was a very short jog because I was panting my way since this is the first time I jogged in at least 4-5 years but it felt AWESOME!!
I also learned another important lesson when I was walking back home. When I went panting for breath, I slowed down and then turned to walking. I asked myself did I do my best? I guess not and if not, is this a pattern in my life? Hence, I’ve also made a decision today. I will take one week to condition my body and then I will set my first running goal – to run for 20min non-stop.
