Happy New Year!!!

2011 has been a wonderful year and there were many ups and downs. Personally, it was a rewarding year for myself as I have grown so much as a person over the year. I would like to document some of my achievements and also set goals for the year 2012.

Revisiting 2011:

1. I achieved the title of Ruby in July and Diamond in December in Nuskin.

2. I was promoted to Senior Wealth Educator in Wealth Directions.

3. I resigned from my thirteen years of service with my long serving company.

4. My circle of friends is growing bigger.

5. I have become much healthier in person and I also look younger.

6. My wife and daughter looks prettier.

7. I have personally developed into a better person and I can see things in a very different perspective comparing to myself a year ago.

8. I have better hopes and expectations of myself and my life. I dare to set goals and work towards achieving my goals.

There were some awesome moments in 2011 and one of the important milestone was when I resigned from my job and took the plunge in building network, with no knowledge of where I was heading. Nevertheless, this is a step that I have not regretted as I have found this journey to be not only fulfilling but rewarding as well. Of course, there are many challenges along the way and there are people who do not believe in me but the more important thing is, I have learned to accept certain things and move on because I believe that my future is in my own hands.

Moving forward, these are some of the goals that I want to achieve in 2012.

1. I want to paid as Diamond in 2012.

2. I want to grow my team to at least 100 executives and more than 20 rubies.

3. I want to help my committed executives earn more from Nuskin business.

4. I want to influence more people to join our journey for success.

5. I want to train my body to become very fit (I am healthy now but I want to look super fit).

6. I want to bring my family to Japan for tour.

7. I want to consider owning a car and hiring a maid by June.

8. I want to consistently enrich my mind and learn from successful people so that I can achieve success in the shortest possible time.

Well, these are some of my goals for 2012. Not all of them but some of them. Some of my other goals are private and will only be displayed in my house. Heh heh… For all my friends and you who is reading this post, do take some time to set your goals for 2011. Do not set resolutions, because a resolution is simply a “re-solution” to what you have not achieved. Set goals and commit to achieving them. Even if you do not achieve 100%, you are still better off if you can achieve 70%.

I attended the Millionaire Mind Intensive Seminar by T. Harv Eker and in it, he mentioned that you can use an hour a day to build a great online business. Sounds good? I believe so…

Well, this post is not about how to build an online using an hour a day. You want to know how to do that? Go find Harv. Nope, this post is just a discussion of how I will spend my extra hour, if I have it.

While many of us are working and finding time not enough, we often feel that it will be nice if we can have an extra hour to do the things we want. When you really have that, hHow will you spend the extra hour?

Perhaps you will like to do the following??

• Watch a TV program?
• Spend more time with your kids?
• Go shopping?
• Read a book?
• Blog about how you spend the extra hour?
• Meet an old friend?
• Take an extra hour of rest?
• Work some more?

For me, time does not exist. Simply because if you really have an extra hour of time and you do not use it wisely, it is as good as not having it. But if you make full use of your time in whatever you do, you will indeed get your extra hour a day.

What I mean is, when you decide to spend time with family, make sure your time spent with them is total quality time. Put aside your blackberry. Shutdown your notebook. Spend that ‘time’ with your family and you would have already saved precious time. And when you work, then you allocate your full resources to your work. This will ensure that your work is productive and efficient, and you will not waste time on amending or correcting shabby work. Same goes for play.

Well, of course, this is just my personal opinion but the fact is, there is no extra hour a day so do make proper use of your time because if you do not use it, someone else will.

It has been a while since I found time to update my blog. Well, I have been busy learning many things since I resigned from my 13 years of employee life.

This one month plus I have been putting learning as my number one priority. And I will say that among so many things I have learned, gratitude is a very important lesson that I have unlearned to relearn.

As things continue to happen around us, one of the things that we often overlook is to appreciate and thank the things that we often take for granted. While most of us (myself included) have been trained to look at problems, when we take a step back and start to look at things from another angle, often we will find that things may not be what they seem. Things can be better. Things can look brighter.

We first have to learn to be thankful.

I am thankful.

I am thankful firstly to my parents, for having born and raised me, to have taught me the way of life. Even though I may disagree certain opinions, I am thankful to them for sharing theirs.

I am thankful to my wife Amily, for constantly showing me care and concern and standing by me no matter what happened. I am thankful for all the tolerance you demonstrate when I am unreasonable. I am thankful for your understanding when I needed it most and I am thankful that you are the mother of our precious darling Jade.

I am thankful to Jade for being a very sensible, and happy girl. Even though Daddy may intentionally provoke you at times, I am thankful that you know it is out of love. I am thankful that every time I hear the word “Daddy”, it warms my heart from deep within.

I am thankful for my family, simply for the fact that they are my family. As the saying goes, “Blood is thicker than water.” and hence, we are bonded more strongly than anyone in this world.

I am thankful to my friends, especially those who inspire me to think big and to grow bigger. I am also thankful to those who makes me believe in myself, especially my mentors.

I am thankful for the opportunities that have been presented to me and my family.

I am thankful for the experiences that I have earned.

I am thankful for having a complete body to work with.

I am thankful to know how to blog. Ha ha…

I am thankful for a lot of things and people, and I know that only when I am thankful, I am happy.

I remembered that I have previously blogged about something similar. Why am I talking about gratitude again? Simply because it is important to me. Simply because I am grateful for many things, including you, my reader.

June 10 2011 was my last day with my company StarHub Ltd. Time flies. I have worked there for 13 and half years. I actually wanted to post this but have been extremely busy over the past 1 week and only have time now.

Well, I joined Singapore Cable Vision on 29 December 1997. I had the chance to get to know many wonderful colleagues there and I am also fortunate to have great bosses to work with all these years.

However, over the past two years I kept asking myself what can I achieve if I continue to work in this company. And the more I asked myself, the harder I can find an answer. An answer that I will be truly satisfied. Especially after attending Adam Khoo’s Patterns Of Excellence and Dennis Ng’s How To Save & Accumulate $1Million, I am certain that my efforts there will not reap the results I want in life.

So I made a decision – to explore something else. I then learned Internet Marketing, Investing, Networking and I must say these things combined have enabled me to have a safe transition out of my comfort zone. More importantly, I understand the need to change and I also understand that there are many opportunities out there that can enrich a person’s life. And I am thankful for many people who have in one way or another, influenced or helped me these two years.

Anyway, I’d like to share my final email to my colleagues in StarHub. Here goes…

Dear Colleagues,

$33.94 was the price of Basic Tier when I joined SCV in 1997. I happen to see a cab with 3394 on my way to office this morning. Coincidental?

Anyway, today marks my last day with StarHub after 13 years of service.

To keep an originally long email short, I’d like to offer my sincere gratitude to the following people who have guided and helped me during my stay. They are:

Nu Skin Singapore has a newsletter (Live Young Buzz). The newsletter showcases Nu Skin’s products and useful information on healthcare. I had a little surprise when I picked up the May-June 2011 issue. Read on to find out why.

Last month, my wife asked me to take part in a Nu Skin contest, in conjunction with Mother’s Day. I have to submit an article telling how Nu Skin can be a great gift to people. The theme was ‘THE BEST THEY CAN ‘GIFT’. If selected, we will win an ageLOC pendant worth S$80.

Initially, I told my wife that we can buy the pendant with some purchases. However, my wife told me that it will be more meaningful if we can win it. Hence, I agreed and I started writing ABOUT how Nu Skin is a wonderful gift for us and for everyone.

A year ago, I was a different person. I was tired all day, and all I wanted to do was to go home, spend some time with my wife and daughter, and then head for the bed. I disliked going out and I disliked meeting my friends. Yup, that was me in 2010. I lacked energy and I lacked self confidence. I was overweight.

All thanks to NuSkin and Pharmanex, my life has changed totally. In April 2010, I was introduced to TRA by my wife. “Try it” she said, “For your health.”

So I started taking TRA with my wife and three months later, we were incredibly amazed at how much it has helped us. Apart from its effectiveness in losing weight, it has given me so much more energy to do the things that I want. With my new found energy, I can now bring my five year old daughter out to play anywhere, anytime. In the past, I actually dreaded outdoors.

My wife was also very happy after we completed TRA. That is because in the past, shopping can never last past half an hour. Because of my slip disc, whenever I walked for half an hour, I had to rest because my back was in pain. After TRA, the pain is now totally gone and I can shop with her for as long as we want to. TRA also shaped my body to be lean and mean. One of the reason why I do not socialize much was because I did not feel good. TRA has given me more confidence in meeting people now and it really feels great.

When I was writing the article, I only have one thought – I must win this contest for my lovely wife.

I remember reading or hearing a story but I am not able to recall from where or by whom. If this is your story, I apologize for using it here. I just want to share something I thought of today.

Story goes something like this…

There was a man who took the subway and in the subway were three kids behaving rowdily and creating a lot of noise in it. Their behavior obviously disturbed many others and accompanying them was their father, seated at a corner, completely oblivious to their disturbing behavior.

Finally, a gentleman, unable to stand the racket, approached the father and said, ‘Sir, if you do not mind, can you help to manage your kids. They are causing a great deal of noise and disturbing the peace of those who need it here.’

The father seemed to have awoken from a dream and with an apologetic tone, said, ‘I am deeply sorry about this. Please accept my apologies. Well, their mother had just passed on and we are still trying to cope with the loss. Once again, I am deeply sorry.’

Upon hearing this, the gentleman immediately changed his attitude towards the father and turned empathetic. He even sat down thereafter and consoled the father.

That was they story I remembered. The story on perspective.

Many events are happening around us, and we often see things from our perspective. Many times we tend to think about what things should be, because of the way we see things. When a driver drives on the road and sees someone jaywalking or running across the road, he exclaims that this person is trying to get himself killed. When the jaywalker runs across and hears a honk from an angry driver, the jaywalker exclaims that the driver could have just slowed down.

Perspective. Different people, different perspective.

It is not easy to change someone’s perspective. It is not easy to change our own perspective.

Today I see a piece of news. An 18 year old girl by the name of Krystal Aki Mizoguchi, fell to her death at Ang Mo Kio. News believed that she had committed suicide. It is indeed a tragedy. But what set me thinking is because of the comments I read. It shows me that different people will have different perspective over the same incident. Some empathized with her, while others commented she could have given thoughts to her parents before committing suicide. To me, there is no right or wrong. It is only from whose perspective you are looking from.

I only want to bring out the point that while we tend to have one perspective most of the time, but sometimes it pays to stop and try to think from another perspective. Perhaps you may see some light in a negative situation. Perhaps you can see why others behave the way you would not like them to. Perhaps at the end of the day, you may be a happier person, when you change your perspective.

I was watching this video about Casey Heynes, a 16 year old boy in Sydney who was bullied by his schoolmates. In the video, Casey was bullied by a 10 year old boy named Ritchard Gale and was being punched at.

Gale was a lot smaller in size then Casey, but he was not afraid as he seemed to be backed up by a couple of other students in school. Apparently, Casey had been suffering from bullies for a pretty long time, and he could no longer take it anymore. Finally, he snapped and he fought back.

Casey Heynes became an overnight hero on the internet. Watch his interview below.

My personal opinion:

I was too bullied when I was young. As a timid boy, I was afraid to stand up for myself. Luckily for me, I was not bullied in school. Rather, I was bullied in my neighborhood. I shall not go into details of how I was bullied but my point is, I was never strong enough to stand up for myself back then, although I wished I could. That is why when I watched this video, I said “Well done, Casey. You stood up!”.

However, as I pondered on the issue more, I realize that it is very difficult to choose between retaliating or walking away. while retaliating may seem to be the way to send a message across to such bullies, as an adult now, I understand that there may be consequences. Violence will lead to more violence, and one cannot guarantee that the bullies will leave Casey alone after this episode. On the other hand, I am pretty sure that Casey had reported such bullying incidents to his school before, but it did not help him much all these years.

As a father myself, my daughter did complain that she was bullied in school before. Although my advice to her was to approach her teacher for help, it did not feel good to know that she was physically bullied by someone else. Luckily the situation improved for her as we no longer hear from her about such bullying situations. But I ask myself what if it recurs when she gets older? Should I advise her to walk away and report to the school? And to what extent must she tolerate such bullying? Will she snap like Casey does one day?

Of course, these are just questions I raise for the purpose of this post because it is not good to focus on negative things. But these are very realistic questions that parents, and even children need to think about should they come face to face with bullies.

Well, for the time being, I will still say we should walk away. Because violence will still lead to violence. But if the school cannot handle the situation, then us parents will have to step in to make changes.

I was introduced to NuSkin Singapore in April 2010 when my wife & I took up TRA. TRA has helped me improve my health tremendously and since I completed the program, my back (slip disc) problem is now gone and I can do things with more energy and focus.

Anyway, because TRA has benefited both my wife and I, we were eager to share how this great product has helped us improve our health. And through this sharing with friends and relatives, NuSkin Singapore has rewarded us by promoting us to Executives and we qualified for the New Executive Getaway in 2010.

On March 12, about 200 new executives gathered at Shah Alam as we went on a journey to discover what it takes to conquer our fear and reach greater heights.

We were greeted by the company and were treated to a free buffet lunch at the hotel. Following that, we were taken to an outdoor park where there were team building games and ultimately, we face the biggest challenge – Sky Trek!!!

Boy! Sky Trek was exciting, fun and extremely fulfilling when I conquered each and every challenge faced. You have to be there to experience it!

We also learned very important lessons from the day’s challenge, and as each of us have different experiences, we were able to share what we went through at the end.

The two days getaway signifies the beginning of my wife & my career in NuSkin Singapore.

It is possible because my wife has put in tremendous effort in realizing our dreams in this platform. Henceforth, I will also put more focus in this business as I strongly believe that passive income is the way to achieve financial freedom and this is one of the ways we can generate passive income in time to come.

Anyway, NuSkin New Executive Getaway was a very fun and interesting one for us as this is the first time we are having a free trip with so many people with the same goal – to succeed in this company.

I sincerely wish all new executives that spent their time together with us to achieve great success in their lives and to be a MCA soon.
