89 Year Old English Teacher In Taiwan Positive Attitude

My wife shared this video on Facebook yesterday. This inspiring 89 year old lady works as a teacher teaching English and music in Taiwan and this short video speaks of her attitude towards life in 2 minutes. I was also caught by surprise as she spoke in mandarin beautifully. It is a very inspiring video. I have added english subtitles for the benefit of those who does not understand mandarin.

I am particularly inspired by her message that age is just a number. I am very sure her life experience is way more than mine (more than double) and there is a great deal to learn from her. Having a positive attitude, being grateful for life itself is what makes life beautiful.

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to sit in the passenger seat of a Ferrari. I am not an automobile fan so do not ask me what is the model. I am only grateful for the opportunity to experience what it feels like to be in a Ferrari through a millionaire mentor, Mr. Ong Gee (OngGee.com). I was also fortunate to have experienced sitting in a friend’s Lamborghini back in 2014. I am a Lamborghini fan even though I don’t fancy driving. Yesterday’s experience though made me start to like the Ferrari because of the smoothness of the drive but I still think I prefer looks over feel for now. 🙂

I used to question why are some people so rich while some are forever stuck in the middle or lower class. I used to blame the society, blame the government and even blamed my environment for not giving me the lifestyle that I want. I used to compare the rich and the poor. I felt that life was just not fair.

And while I had this thought, I looked around. I saw some senior people collecting plates at a coffee shop. I saw a young man walking around asking people to buy his tissue paper for a dollar. I asked myself why is life so unfair to them?

Then I pondered… Is life unfair? Or is life like what this lady make of? That age is just a number and circumstance just a moment in time. That every event and every moment is actually what we make of it, and that our attitude can determine the outcome we desire?

Personally, I think in this short message I watched, I am truly inspired and educated by her. Life is not about fairness. The universe is fair to all. It puts us in the exact situation for us in our lives to experience what we are meant to experience and to choose our paths accordingly. I told this to one of our event crew on Saturday who was excited and nervous about her role. It was her first time. I told her that every role that we play in our event, we were put there for a reason. It does not happen by chance. It happened because we were meant for that role. Perhaps in life, it is the same, everything that we experience happens for a reason. It is up to us and our attitude to determine if that is a good reason or not.
