7 Ways To Increase Productivity In 2017

goalsontrack

Do you often feel that you have so many things on hand that you wish to accomplish but just can’t find the time and energy to complete them? Or the thought of starting a new task itself turns you off instantly?

If so, here are 7 ways to help you increase productivity in 2017.

1. Avoid the distractions

The one thing (or many things) that takes our attention away from our tasks are distractions. Turn off the TV, switch off the game console (mobile games too), close Facebook and tell yourself that you have only one thing to do – to complete your task at hand.

Distractions are everywhere. That is why I choose to leave my house to do my work. There’s too many distractions back there. The TV, the bed, my three year old child and more but even so, I cannot run away from the occasional peeping of my Facebook page. But still, avoiding such distractions deliberately can significantly increase productivity and over time, your will realise that by spending less time on them, you get more done.

2. Prioritise your goals

Well, first of all you need to set your goals. And if like me you have many goals that you want to achieve in 2017, then you need to prioritise your goals. Not all goals are created equal. You need to be able to list down your goals and sort them out according to their importance. For example if you want to achieve all ten goals in 2017, then you need to know which are the ones you must complete and give priority to them because if you’re trying to do everything at once, chances are you will end up not completing any of them and even if you do, it will not be a satisfactory job. If you need additional help on setting and prioritising your goals, you can check out goalsontrack.com for a smart, systematic way of tracking your goals.

3. Have a daily to-do list

Similar to goal setting and prioritising, having a daily to-do list will help you to breakdown those big tasks to smaller tasks and when you complete them one by one on a daily basis, not only do you feel good about completing them at the end of the day, you will be motivated to move on to the next day, and the next. I always have a to-do list every day and even if I do not complete everything every single day, striking some of them out daily gives me a good sense of satisfaction.

4. Staying focused

Okay this is a little bit close to point 1. I’m just checking if you are paying attention to my post here. Just kidding. Avoiding distractions is one thing. Staying focused is another actually. By staying focused, I mean that when you are attempting to complete a task, besides putting away distractions, it is good that you can track and time yourself on the task. A pomodoro timer is a good tool to use to help you keep focused on your task. Basically it is a tool that has a timer set to 25 minutes. Once the counter starts counting down, you will focus on your task until the counter ends. You can then take a break (usually 5 minutes) before going back to your task and restarting the counter. Check out this online pomodoro timer. And by the way, it is also called a tomato timer.

5.  Take a break

“What? Are you kidding me?”, you may ask. Yes, taking a break helps increase your productivity. I am not talking about taking long breaks like hours but once a while when you feel tired, or lack of motivation or ideas, it’s time to take the hint and just relax for a while. Drink some water, go to the washroom, eat a fruit, or simply close your eyes and relax for 2 minutes. You will be surprised how your brain juice starts flowing after the break.

6. Build your library

Increasing your productivity is not only about working and producing more results. You also need to build your knowledge and skills. You can build your knowledge and skills through a variety of methods like reading books, listening to podcasts, watching videos and attending workshops etc. The key thing is not to just read. The idea of building your library is to pick up something that relates to what you are doing and read up to improve your knowledge in that field and when you do, it will help you to increase productivity in that area. And don’t just end there. Share what you learned with someone else.

7. Exercise

Everyone knows exercising is good and we should all exercise to keep ourselves fit and free of illnesses, but when was the last time we exercised? Exercising not only helps to improve our health, it actually makes us feel good and become more confident. There are many ways to make exercise fun and you do not need to start running a marathon to keep fit. Just do simple exercises to keep your heart pumping. There are many videos on Youtube that you can follow on a short but effective exercise workout. I am sure you know how exercising can help you increase productivity.
