2016 – All Set To Go

Happy New Year!

My 2016 first blog post was supposed to be titled: Top 10 Best Network Marketing / MLM Books To Read In 2016 but I have changed my mind.

This morning I was privileged to wake up at 5am (actually it was 4.16am as I jumped out of bed thinking I missed my alarm) to bring my daughter to her school bus. This year, it was brought forward to 6.05am.

Anyway, I just want to share my thoughts on something important in my life for now. As my usual first day of school routine, I will take a photo of my daughter Jade to document her growing years. This is her photo since her Primary 1.

After we sent her to her class, my wife and I proceeded to breakfast before I made my way to our first Ruby meeting for 2016. I am glad I attended this one.

Today, our speaker  Mr. Desmond Teoh shared his journey and his shares of ups and downs. There is one thing that touched me this morning and that is the reason I am blogging about today.

Desmond shared about what his daughter said to him last year.

One night, before turning in, Desmond’s daughter said to him, “Daddy, you better take a good look at me. Because tomorrow I am going to grow up.”

This sentence struck Desmond deeply and for some reason, it struck me hard too.

Many years ago, I quit smoking because I love my daughter and does not want her to grow up having a father that smokes. Of course, I did it for my wife too.

Today, almost 10 years down the road I am pursuing my dreams of a better life but somehow I seem to continue to do things that comfort myself. Yes, my platform allows me to spend more time with my children every day but as I do so I cannot help but wonder is this what I really want for my family.

Looking back at my daughter and my son’s growth I cannot help but think of Desmond’s sharing. Yes, indeed I am spending time watching them grow but at times, I feel like I am neglecting our success in the process because much time was spent with them. I believe the best way we can bring our children up is to show and demonstrate to them what kind of parent we are. If we choose an easy way out, they will too. To me, I have to become successful because our children are growing up, fast.

The past few years I can say we have been ‘enjoying’ our journey but personally, I think it is time for me to gear up for 2016. No, this is not some new year resolution thing. This is a personal commitment to my future and to my family’s future.

To end this post, I am thankful to Desmond for his sharing which touched me. I am also thankful to myself to attend his sharing (last year I skipped a few morning meetings). Now, I am all set to go for 2016. Wish me luck!
